The Chewiest Chocolate Chip Cookies

The Story

Chocolate chip cookies are a classic treat loved by people of all ages. While there are countless recipes out there, I've perfected my own version that's sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. This recipe is far from perfect, but it's filled with character and a touch of imperfection that makes it truly special.

From reading other baking websites and talking to the people around me who bake, I can definitively state bakers are perfectionists. Learning how to not be a perfectionist is one of the best and most rewarding things I learned while baking. A skill that helped me equally in the kitchen and in school. This recipe is intentionally imperfect. Don't worry if your cookies don't come out perfectly round or evenly spaced. The beauty of homemade cookies lies in their imperfections. Embrace the quirks and enjoy the taste of a truly unique treat. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt  
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.  
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips

  • Don't over-mix: Over-mixing can lead to tough cookies. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough: Chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking will help prevent the cookies from spreading too much.
  • Use a good quality chocolate chip: Opt for semisweet chocolate chips for the best flavor and texture.
  • Have fun! Baking is a creative process. Don't be afraid to experiment and make your own adjustments to the recipe.
